Help Crowdsource my Ultimate Ride and/or Untimely Demise

Postby Howly Wolf » Thu May 16, 2024 12:08 pm

Looking to push my limits in the 10-15' range-- any recommendations for a local shaper that have their guns dialed in? Considering a few guys in the area, but not sure how specialized anyone is or how refined their templates are. Or should I just reach out to an out of state kahuna, like Bob Pearson or Pat Rawson?

Just for the record, I'd prefer to avoid an untimely demise so would ideally custom a sturdy, user friendly (i.e. large sweet spot) board with a proven rocker.

Chasing southern hemies to the roping points of Chile? Puerto Escondido? Transplanting to OBSF? Or just planning ahead for what looks to be a rough and long surfless La Nina Winter?

Don't have these bases covered already? Looking to be one of those guys at SB cannoning in on the outer bar on a 8'+ Mavs gun? My 7'2" Art fungun seemed to handle 8'-12' Boregon winter waves quite well, so Id say something like that. Saw a Rawson Sniper on the Cleanline mafias used board page recently. Stretch's buzz gun has always interested me. Maybe Christian Bemish for an alt gentelmans stap gun?

Shaped by John Holly. 9'6 x 21 1/4" x 4". Radical double concave from tip to tow; zero in on the sweet spot and the thing blasts off. Works well in a variety of waves, but tend to prefer it for small long period swells, such as the creepin sw swell at 18-20 seconds we've had the past few days. Goes straight, goes fast, but since it can ride a bit squirrely, haven't pushed it past low stakes OH waves. Maybe I should?

Ironically some interesting candidates have popped up recently. Perhaps summer is the time to off the big juevo shapes. This one caught my eye anyways:

Good looking out. Those boards look killer, but will likely go for a custom for a bit more peace of mind when I'll need it most. Am leaning toward giving Art Colyer a call, but am open to other recommendations should anyone be a true believer in Russo, Murdey, Rowley, McNamara, LeBoss, Scott, etc etc.

Still riddled with indecision. Thought the OSP could help, but my impassioned plea was lost amid the colonoscopy discourse.

Buddy just coped an Arakawa Stun Gun but haven't felt er up yet. Been thinking bout a 6'7" quad mid for tight couve shreds for a while but coped a ticket to the tropics where Ill just put more miles on my 2 shorties and likely leave the newish twinny fish at home.
